Not a Nobody

Before you read this blog, I want you to watch a video for me. It’s relevant to this blog, it’s the reason I’m writing this blog in the first place. This video is by an American duo called ‘The Skit Guys’, they make skits about things related to Christian life and this video is called The Skinny on Identity. Watch it for me?

Who am I? For years I called myself worthless, a waste of space, hopeless. For months within those years I wanted to kill myself, made plans to kill myself, wrote suicide notes. For days within those months I struggled with asking for help, reaching out, feeling alone. For minutes within those days there would be a glimmer of hope, a light at the end of the tunnel, something to live for. And within seconds it was shattered. For years I called myself a bad role model, a…

The Greatest Thing You Could Ever Pursue

"Fresh Manna" - Bible Devotions by Tim Burt

Fresh Manna
by Pastor Tim Burt

The world is filled with dog lovers. In my childhood, we always had one in our family. My grandchildren love theirs. My granddaughter recently sent me a picture of her painting her dog’s toenails while he laid perfectly still letting her do so. No wonder dogs are so lovable. Like children, they are a great deal of work but, like little children, they have this incredible innocence and give a great deal of love. I think of all the traits that most people universally love in their dogs. The most commented are their endless out-pouring of love, their loyalty, and that they absolutely know their masters.

In John chapter four, we read a story about Jesus encountering a Samaritan woman at a well. After engaging in conversation with Jesus, she knew that there was something special about Him. Supposing He was a prophet…

An image appears before me. Attractive.
Appears promising.
Details are intriguing.
Curiousity leads me.
A goal to achieve… I want it!
Priced just right. It’s mine!
I liked it…for a moment.
Newness wears off.
Expectations aren’t met.
Void not filled.
Advertisement begins.
Bartering follows.
Smells delightful.
Exchange processed.
Pain begins.
Fills my body.
Emptiness fills me.
Shame covers me.
Fear overwhelms me.
A Voice…
Beckoning me.
Tears streaming…
I’m chosen.
He loves me?
I’m forgiven!
Ashes reveal.
Beauty adorns.
Hope enters.
Light beams.
Promises spoken.
Grace abounds.
Mercy caresses.
Identity embraced.
Daughter of a King.
He is LORD.

All I want for Christmas is the end of me

Running The Race

Please induldge me for a minute and read the lyrics to one of my favorite songs.

“End of Me”

Building 429

I was the one to call the shots

Dream my dreams hard and slow

Answered only to my self

Never giving up control

Until the one day that brought me to my knees

And I would never be the same

Once upon a time the story goes

I laid it all down and let it go

To lose it all, to lose it all

It took a step of faith to say goodbye

And everything I had I left behind

To find true life

Well all I longed for I found finally

At the end of me

And now are gone those wasted days

The selfish soul the emptiness

Love had dimly been replaced

But that old life is laid to rest

And now the new me is stronger…

He entered this world in swaddling clothes; He will reign then in majestic
purple.  He came the first time as a weary traveler; He will return as the
untiring God.  Once He had nowhere to lay His head; then He will be revealed as the heir of all things.  Once He was rejected by tiny Israel; then He will be accepted by all nations.  Once He was a lowly Savior acquainted with grief; then He will be the mighty God annointment with the oil of gladness.

Once He was smitten with a reed; then He will rule the nations with a rod of iron.  Once wicked soldiers bowed the knee in mockery; then every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.  Once He received a crown of thorns; then He will wear a crown of gold.  Once He delivered up His spirit; then He will be alive forevermore.  Once He was laid in a tomb; then He will sit on a throne.  King of Kings and Lord of Lords!  That’s Jesus!

Once Jesus was described as what this song is saying.

Away in a manger, asleep on the bed
The little Lord Jesus lay down his sweat head
The stars in the sky looked down where he laid
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay

Then, Jesus will come for second time as described in Rev 1: 12-20, “There was someone like a son of man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest.  His head and hair were white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blaxing fire.  His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.  In his right hand he held seven starts, and out of his mouth came a sharp double-edged sword.  His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance. ” I am the First and the Last.  I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever!  And I hold the keys of death and Hades.”
